Volunteer Opportunities

 

At Proctor Hospital, volunteers play a vital role in the day-to-day operations and the delivery of quality care and services. We believe that volunteerism not only adds to the quality of one’s life but also gives individuals the opportunity to share their knowledge and life experience with others. The commitment made each day by our volunteers adds greatly to the excellence in care and the commitment to quality of the entire organization.

Ambassador Plus (Lobby) - Monday through Friday, 6:00-9:00 a.m.; 8:00-11:00 a.m.; 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and 2:00-5:00 p.m.
An exciting opportunity for individuals who love working with and assisting people! Are you a people-person? Motivated and have an attentive and caring personality? Do you have outstanding interpersonal skills; comfortable greeting patients and visitors at the time of their arrival? Are you physically able to assist patients in wheelchairs? Emergency Department Greeter – seven days a week, 7:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m. (four-hour shift)
Greet patients in waiting room after they have been registered by staff. Keep waiting area informed (with information from staff). Make sure patients feel they are not forgotten. Keep waiting area neat. (3-7pm is preferred shift at present.)

Patient Financial Services Forms Separator– Tuesday-Friday - flexible hours between 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Share your Musical Talent - 7 days per week. Hours are flexible.
Play music to our visitors in front lobby and other hospital areas.

Patient Services - Nursing Units - 7 days per week, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., 4 hour shift.
Visit with patients and check their needs, e.g., refill water pitcher, providing them opportunities for social interaction. Run errands, restock supplies and assist with assembling chart packets.

Outpatient Surgical Waiting Desk – Evening Volunteer (4:00-8:00 p.m.)

Proctor Hospital has a unique volunteer opportunity awaiting one or more individuals that enjoy working with the public – are sensitive to patient/family needs – and appreciate the importance of excellent customer service.

Outpatient Surgical Waiting Desk volunteers act as liaisons between surgical staff and families; help maintain the environment of the waiting area; maintain beverages and assist with patient discharge.

If you enjoy managing your environment, are a detailed communicator with a passion working with people and providing service, are compassionate, caring, and dependable … this may be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you.

Business Development Data Entry - Monday-Friday, (8 a.m.-4 p.m. Flexible Hours)

Enter data into spreadsheets and databases as needed for projects using Microsoft Word and Excel.

Chaplains

As a nondenominational hospital, Proctor utilizes volunteer chaplains representing as wide a variety of denominations as possible. Each chaplain spends approximately three hours per week at the hospital offering prayers to patients and families, distributing Daily Bread Devotionals, or providing pastoral care support to those with special needs. Chaplains may choose the hours and the days they would like to work.

Medical Escorts

Medical Escorts are men who donate a minimum of four hours each week (one shift) and provide a variety of functions. Shifts are from 8:15 am–12:15 pm and 12:15–4:15 pm, Monday–Friday. Escorts may work as many shifts as desired. Duties may include transporting patients, delivering reports, and staffing information desks in the Proctor Professional Buildings.

Junior Volunteers

Junior Volunteers at Proctor provide a variety of duties throughout the hospital including assisting nurses, working on the nursing floors, running errands, and others. Junior Volunteers must be between the ages of 14-18 years old. Many volunteer positions fill-up early in the spring for the summer program, which runs from June to late August.

Service Auxiliary

The Service Auxiliary is an organization whose members assist Proctor Hospital in the provision of services and support beneficial to patients, families, and the community. Services include Snacks 'n Sodas, ICU and Surgical waiting areas, mail and flowers delivery, Patient Library and Hospital Gift Shop. Training is provided for all services. Most shifts are four hours and scheduled Monday-Friday with the exception of the Gift Shop. The Gift Shop is open seven days a week.

The Service Auxiliary offers a variety of activities and socials throughout the year including an annual Christmas and Spring Luncheon, coffees, and unique, and fun, fund-raising opportunities. Each year the Service Auxiliary funds scholarship awards for Hospital employee-applicants continuing their education in the medical field.

Service Auxiliary volunteers honor the traditions and policies of Proctor Hospital through acceptance, adherence, and work ethics established by a governing board.

All volunteers park free in a covered deck, receive membership to the Employee Fitness Center for only $7.50 per month, receive free flu and TB shots through Employee health, and receive a 40% discount in the cafeteria when in uniform.
