volunteer opportunities
At Proctor Hospital volunteers play a vital role in the day-today operations and the delivery of quality care and services. We believe that volunteerism not only adds to the quality of one’s life but also gives individuals the opportunity to share their knowledge and life experience with others. The commitment made each day by our volunteers adds greatly to the excellence in care and the commitment to quality of the entire organization.

Chaplains

As a nondenominational hospital, Proctor utilizes volunteer chaplains representing as wide a variety of denominations as possible. Each chaplain spends approximately three hours per week at the hospital offering prayers to patients and families, distributing daily Bread Devotionals, or providing pastoral care support to those with special needs. Chaplains may choose the hours and the days they would like to work.

Contact the Social Services Department at 309/691-1032.

Medical Escorts

Medical Escorts are men who donate a minimum of four hours each week (one shift) and provide a variety of functions. Shifts are from 8:15 am–12:15 pm and 12:15–4:15 pm, Monday–Friday, and 8:15 am–12:15 pm on Saturdays. Escorts may work as many shifts as desired. Duties may include transporting patients, delivering reports, and staffing information desks in the Proctor Professional Buildings.

For more information about the Medical Escorts please call 309/691-1032.

Service Auxiliary

The Proctor Hospital Service Auxiliary is a women’s volunteer organization that staffs 27 positions within the hospital each day. Some of these areas include the Gift Shop, Snacks and Sodas, the ICCU and surgical waiting areas, the patient library, and mail and flowers. Most shifts are four-hour shifts, Monday–Friday with some volunteer opportunities on Saturday and Sunday.

The Service Auxiliary offers a variety of activities and socials throughout the year such as the annual Christmas and spring luncheons, volunteer appreciation banquets, coffee’s, and unique fund-raising opportunities (holiday bazaar, book sale, and others). Each year the Auxiliary hosts a scholarship award for students in the medical field.

For more information about the Service Auxiliary please call 309/691-1057.

All Medical Escort and Service Auxiliary members park free in a covered deck, receive membership to the Employee Fitness Center for only $6.00 per month, receive free flu and TB shots through Employee health, and receive a 40% discount in the cafeteria when in uniform.

Junior Volunteers

Junior Volunteers at Proctor provide a variety of duties throughout the hospital including assisting nurses, working on the nursing floors, running errands, and others. Junior Volunteers must be between the ages of 14-18 years old. Many volunteer positions fill-up early in the spring for the summer program, which runs from June to late August.
