Proctor Hospital is the host of a Medical Exploring Post that allows young adults the opportunity to gain hands-on practical experience in the field of health care. This is a chance to meet and shadow some of the best professionals in their field. Participants will see things, within a hospital setting, most people never get to see, and gain leadership skills that will benefit them when applying for jobs or college admission in the future.

This year, in cooperation with Illinois Central College, students will share experiences in various health care disciplines, including:

• Respiratory Care—students work with pigs’ lungs and a ventilator
• Emergency Medical Services—joining with a Fire Exploring Post for a hands-on experience
• Surgery—experience what it means to “scrub-in”
• Diagnostic Imaging—see what it takes to create and interpret a diagnostic image from CT scans, MRI scans and other modalities
